Desert National Wildlife Range is located north of Las Vegas. The main entry point is the Corn Creek Field Station, which is about 30 minutes northwest of town. From Las Vegas, drive north on Highway 95 for about 30 minutes. Drive past the first turnoff to Mt. Charleston (Kyle Canyon Road; Highway 157) and past the turnoff to the Las Vegas.

At nearly 1.6 million acres, the Desert National Wildlife Refuge (DNWR) is the largest wildlife refuge outside of Alaska and protects the largest intact habitat for the Desert Bighorn Sheep in the Mojave desert. Initially established as the Desert Game Range in 1936, the military gained a temporary withdrawal and joint.

Camping is an excellent way to experience the refuge, and we offer several options at Desert NWR, all fee-free. Accessing them requires travel over rugged backcountry roads; four-wheel drive (4WD), high-clearance vehicles with good tires are strongly recommended. Desert Pass Campground, located on Mormon Well Road, has six primitive campsites.
